Both cylinders are implanted into the corpora cavernosa of the penis. The reservoir is filled with saline and implanted in the pelvis, next to the urinary bladder. The pump is implanted in the scrotum. All three components are connected by a system of tubes. It mimics the natural process of achieving an erection by inflating the two corpora cavernosa while maintaining the sensitivity of the glans penis.


ANATOMY

The male penis consists of three parts: the glans penis, the corpora cavernosa, and the urethra, which is surrounded by the corpora spongiosum. The glans penis, or head of the penis, is the most sensitive area of the penis. The corpora cavernosa fill with blood, causing an erection. The urethra, surrounded by corpora spongiosum, forms part of the urinary system. The corpora cavernosa consist of two cylindrical passages located on either side of the urethra. They have the ability to both store and empty blood, ensuring the ability to achieve an erection and return to a flaccid state. Erectile dysfunction occurs when the corpora cavernosa are unable to fill with blood.
